ALONG THE ALGARVE COAST : SILVES-CARVOElRO-MARINHA-GALE
Skies have now been blue & clear for the last fortnight since we left ALVOR, as we hop along the Algarve coast, discovering its history and its beautiful 100 million year old geographic coastline. With its many sandy beaches and one of the world best rated beach at Marinha.
First we stopped at Silves having a short stopover to visit the old Moors Castle. Moving onto a a quirky hippy camp amongst shacks and bushy gardens above Carvoeiro town. A few days here walking the cliffs and sight seeing in the local tourist town.
At Marinha we Wild Camped above the beach and its wonderous shaped eroded cliffs and rocks.
Further along the coast just 4 miles west of Albufeira we found a lovely friendly campsite, Parque da Gale close to endless beaches and coves, where we relaxed and chilled out, with a lovely cooling breeze coming off the Atlantic. A good day trip to the Albufeira historical part of the old town, a lovely fish meal and then completed by a sailing trip along the beautiful coastline on the MARA CAT taking in the many coves and the spectacular Cave at Benagil.

FROM THE WILD ATLANTIC TO THE WARM MEDITERRANEAN : La Istela-Cartagena-Altea-Calpe-Xabia
Leaving Portugal, temperatures rise so we aborted Malaga & Cordoba and a stop over in the beautiful National Park near Almeria above the beach at the lovely and remount hamlet of Ia Isleta.
Moving on we spend a very different night in a local petrol station in Cartagena but very convenient with a short walk into the town and the port. We headed for the tourist office, only to be told that all tourist sites were now closed for 2 months for holidays. So what do the tourist do in summer ?? We still managed to visit the Roman Theatre and the lovely street architecture, well worth the visit.
Taking the high road well away Benidorm we travelled to the historic town of ALTEA, with its modern beach resort, and slightly further away we camped in the suburbs of ALBIR (the cheaper end). From here we were able to cycle to the delightful beautiful old town with its church perched on top of the hill, and to its headland to get great views along the coast of Costa Blanca. Now you can't go to Costa Blanca without taking in the Sun, Sand & Sea.
Time to work our way home its been a wonderful 2019 tour.
